Doug & Jael
August 30, 2026
Over a week ago, Doug flew up to West Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo where we lived for twenty-two years in order to transfer our guest house ownership from a private name to our local ministry organizations name. It's a process that has taken years, and a great deal of paperwork to accomplish, but it is finally done! Fires are everywhere on Borneo, caused by rice farmers slashing and burning new plots of land on which to plant their crops and since it hasn't rained since June there is smoldering peat moss all over the region. The pictures i'm posting may look clear, but the smoke in the air registered off the air quality index charts at over 1000!

We joined Doug on Borneo a few days later after first spending time with Carolyn Crockett who was passing through Jakarta. We had a wonderful couple of days hanging out with Ros, Adriana and Acingk and their guests (who was away working when we took pictures), and our grand-daughter Blume loved making new friends. We flew Ros, Acingk and Adriana with us to surprise Melania, who is still with Operation Mobilization on the Doulos Hope Ship and making preparations for the ship to dock here in a couple weeks! We returned to Jakarta on Friday evening and our eyes are still recovering from all the smoke.

Call to Prayer:
- Pray that we get rain in Kalimantan and Jakarta! The smoke has come come down to the Island of Java now
- Jensen is touring another international school on Monday to help decide which one better fits their family when they move here next year!
- Mia has started her second year of classes!
- I mysteriously sprained my ankle (self diagnosis since two doctors at two different hospitals didn't know) and am praying for a quick recovery!
Thank You for Standing & Kneeling with us,

Fun Fact: Iced Avocado Coffee - This is an all-time favorite among locals and foreigners living in Indonesia. You get to gulp down a dose of your daily caffeine along with a filling avocado breakfast all in one go! It's called "Es Kopi Alpukat" in Indonesian, which is a direct translation. The recipe changes from person to person, but its often made with whipped cream, chocolate syrup and condensed milk.

Doug and Jael’s story with RCC goes way back. In fact, they said “I do” right here in 1994 before packing up and heading to Indonesia! Today they support churches scattered across Indonesia’s many islands, and their ministry has grown into four branches: local churches, a community network that helps those churches connect and coordinate, an aviation division that reaches remote places, and a leadership organization. At the heart of it all, Doug and Jael are passionate about equipping local churches and national believers to carry the gospel forward in their own country.
